My story
61 countries. One classroom.
Before I made tech videos, I spent ten years teaching English in five countries. Here’s everywhere I’ve been, and how a teacher ended up with a billion views.

The journey
From the classroom to a billion views
I taught classes of 35 to 55 students aged 12 to 14. If you can keep that many teenagers paying attention, you can keep anyone paying attention. It’s still the best training I’ve had for short-form video.
- Where it started
Saint Paul, Minnesota
I was born and raised in Saint Paul. In 2004 I went next door to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where I majored in French and International Studies.
- 2006 to 2007
A year in Aix-en-Provence
I spent my junior year studying abroad in the south of France. I loved life abroad so much that I knew I’d be back.
- 2009 to 2012 · 3 years
Teaching in Lille, France
After graduating I went straight back to France to teach English, first at a grade school, then at a university.
- 2012 to 2013 · 1 year
Back home in the US
Leaving France was hard. I came home and spent the 2012–13 school year teaching in the United States, before heading back out into the world.
- 1 year
Thailand
Next I wanted to see life from a completely different angle. Thailand gave me exactly that.
- 2015 to 2019 · 4 years
South Korea
I moved to Korea in February 2015 to teach English and ended up leading an English immersion camp. Korea became home. I’ve been married since 2018, we have two kids, and it’s why I make tech news in Korean as well as English.
- 2019 to 2020 · 1 year
Xi’an, China
My last classroom. I taught English in Xi’an until the pandemic broke out in January 2020, and I headed home to Saint Paul.
- 2020
From classroom to clips
Stuck at home, I started clipping my favorite podcast, All-In, on a fan account. It grew by 30,000 followers in a month. That turned into Good Future Media with my childhood friend Spencer, and then the official short-form accounts for 20VC.
- Today
A billion views later
Today Good Future Media is a full podcast clipping agency, and our clips have pulled over a billion views for some of the biggest founders and VCs in the world. I also co-founded Imagine AI Live, started Cliptastic, and make a tech news video every single day. I’m still a teacher. The classroom just got bigger.
